The
city of Indian Wells is home to some of the countrys
wealthiest retirees who flock to world-class golf
courses once played by entertainer Bing Crosby and
President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It has always been
a destination of the privileged class. Its
home every year to the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic
golf tournament and the prestigious Desert Town
Hall of Indian Wells lecture series.
Today, the city focuses on landscape and beautification.
In 1990, the city won a national citation of excellence
in urban design from the American Institute of Architects,
for its beautification effort of a former stagecoach
trail within city limits.
In addition to preserving its resort and residential
status, the city hopes to become the Coachella Valleys
financial district, enticing brokerage, accounting
and banking firms to build and settle within city
limits. |
